Fix a capture that failed

Most failed captures fix themselves with one retry. This page walks through what each failure means and what to do next, from the moment you paste a link to the moment notes appear.

First, check the link

kyn works with YouTube today. Regular videos, Shorts, live streams, embeds, and youtu.be short links all work; podcasts outside YouTube and other video sites are not supported yet. If you see "That does not look like a YouTube video URL", copy the link straight from the address bar or the share button of a YouTube page and try again.

"You are capturing too fast"

There is a short per-minute limit on new captures to keep the pipeline fair. Wait a moment and try again; nothing you already started is affected.

The transcript failed

kyn drafts from the video's transcript, so the transcript is the step that can genuinely fail. What you might see:

• The video has no usable captions. kyn falls back to transcribing the audio itself, which takes longer. A few videos still cannot be transcribed, and those cannot be captured.
• "The transcripts service is unavailable. Please try again shortly." This is on our side, not yours. Wait a minute and use Retry on the capture.
• "Transcript failed" on a capture in your library. Open it and use the Retry control to pull the transcript again.

A retry never uses a second capture for the same video.

The transcript worked, but the notes did not

Transcripts and note drafting are separate steps. If you see "Generation failed" or notes that never finish, the transcript is safe; use the retry option on the capture, or refresh the page and start generation again. If it says notes are still processing, give it a moment: drafting from a long transcript can take a little while.

If the same video fails after a retry, write to us with the video link and roughly when you tried. A person reads every message.
